About Local 423
Founded in 2019 after the musicians of the Boise Philharmonic grassroots organizing effort, Local 423 is the newest Local in the American Federation of Musicians. The movement was born out of the need to come together to represent ourselves in our community and have a stronger voice in our work. In 2024, the Musicians of Opera Idaho voted to seek recognition under Local 423 as well, expanding the coverage of our union. Local 423 members include not just classical musicians, but also rock, pop, folk, jazz and any and all genres.
